I want to feel pages within my grasp
To smell fresh ink sprawled over crisp paper
To see my name in bold on the cover
I want to see smiles of pride and joy
as they bask the pleasure of knowing my future is secure
in the career, I call my own and not one of my family’s desire
I want to see bursting brown boxes
filled to the brim with clothes and leather-bound books
moving to a small apartment for two in the land of dreams
Can I dream such a dream?
Not knowing whether it will come true
Lead myself into false hope
of a future, I can only see with my eyes closed
