Accepted Genres

Running Up

The Arras Periodical publishes creative writing and visual art. In our literary submissions, we are looking for prose that tells a story, along with poetry. We have included a more detailed breakdown of the genres we accept on this page. If you are not sure whether we are accepting a certain genre or whether your piece falls under a certain genre, you may email us at arrasperiodical@gmail.com

CREATIVE WRITING

Genres of writing that will be considered:

  • Poetry

    • All forms of poetry (limerick, free verse, prose poem, etc.) will be accepted as long as they adhere to the line number count in the submission guidelines.

  • Fiction

    • Short stories and flash fiction

  • Creative nonfiction

    • Personal narratives and literary journalism

    • NOTE: Please do not confuse literary journalism with traditional journalism! Literary journalism is told in a narrative format and uses creative elements, while traditional journalism is factual and does not typically tell a story.

Genres of writing that will not be considered:

  • Academic essays

    • Persuasive essays, expository essays, etc.

  • Nonfiction or informational texts

  • Blog writing
