Submission Process

NOTE: For the sake of transparency, we have detailed how submissions will be evaluated and the process that each submission will go through before the writer receives a decision from us.

Creative Writing:

If you submit by our early submission deadline (March 22), your piece will be sent to three readers. Each reader will write a brief paragraph of feedback on your piece and vote on whether it should be accepted.

Afterwards, the piece will be sent to an assistant editor. The assistant editor will compile and edit the readers’ feedback, then make a final decision on whether the piece should be accepted. The assistant editor will also write specific comments on your piece if they believe that it should be published. If your piece receives 2-3 yes votes from the readers and a yes vote from the assistant editor, the core officers will review it to determine whether it should be included in the magazine. In the event that it is accepted, it will be sent to an in-house editor, who will correspond with you to directly edit the piece.

The in-house editor will use the assistant editor’s specific comments, along with the readers’ feedback, to help them edit your piece. If your piece does not receive enough votes, we will send you an email with your feedback and notify you that your piece has not been selected for publication.

**You may opt out of receiving feedback. That being said, we encourage you to accept feedback! Our readers will be trained to write constructive and positive critique, and their work will be reviewed by a more experienced staff member.

In the event that you choose not to receive feedback, your submission will still follow the votes system. Our readers will vote on whether your piece should be accepted and provide brief rationale for their decisions. Then, one of our assistant editors will make the final vote and provide rationale. You will not receive our rationale.

Visual Art:

We will have several art judges in each genre of visual art. Three art judges will vote on whether your piece should be accepted. Although they will provide brief rationale for their decisions, you will not receive feedback. Our art director(s) will review the submissions that receive 2-3 yes votes and select the final pieces for publication.
