LITERARY SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR SPRING 2022 EDITION ARE OPEN!

The final deadline was December 3rd, but we'll continue to accept submissions until the end of Monday (12/06). After that, no more submissions will be accepted! If you've already submitted something, you're free to edit the document until Monday night.

You may submit THREE pieces per semester if you are not a member of the club and FIVE pieces per semester if you are a member of the club. Our editors will provide feedback on your submission unless you opt out of receiving feedback.

Word Count:

If you are submitting a prose piece, please adhere to the word count. Our minimum word count is 100 words and our maximum word count is 1,500 words. If you are writing a short story, we will accept up to 1,700 words; however, we advise you to cut your submission down to 1,500 or fewer words.

Line Number Count:

If you are submitting a poetry piece, please adhere to the line number count. We are looking for at least 3 lines and at most 40 lines. All forms of poetry will be accepted as long as the poem adheres to the line number count.

Formatting:

Please use the font Arial or Times New Roman. We will accept 11-point font to 14-point font.

Plagiarism Policy:

We will accept pieces that you have submitted for your classes, but we do not condone plagiarism. If your work directly plagiarizes (i.e., has lines that are copied and pasted from another source), your work will not be considered for publication, and you will be prohibited from submitting for the rest of the semester. Consequences for plagiarism will be decided on a case-by-case basis; your consequences might be more or less harsh depending on the severity of the plagiarism.

Content:

We will not accept works with inappropriate themes. Examples of inappropriate themes include…

  1. Explicit sexual themes

  2. Excessive gore or violence

  3. Racist or bigoted themes

  4. Disrespecting or making a negative reference to anyone at MHS, including students and faculty

Additional Requirements

Please do not put your name anywhere on your submission, as we follow a blind judging process to eliminate bias.

Please submit your work as a Google Document.

Please make sure that your piece is considered creative writing. Generally, we are looking for prose pieces that tell a story, along with poetry pieces. For a more comprehensive list of the genres we accept, please visit the “Accepted Genres” page under the “About” tab.

We do not accept submissions written in a foreign language right now. However, we are working on a system where our bilingual members can evaluate pieces in another language. In the meantime, we encourage you to submit a translation of your piece in English.

To submit, please fill out the Google Form and follow all of the directions in the form.
