Wildfire Heart

I need water.
I need a jug of water to smother this fire in my chest
This fire it’s…
Consuming me.
It won’t let my heart stop skipping each beat
Or take a full breath
Or to let my mind be at ease
I didn’t notice the fire was still going
“It grew from…”
Each word from her mouth
Each text message she sends me
Each time, a match is lit
And the fire would spread, further down each finger tip
The smoke fills up my lungs
Each chamber of my heart
Each wrinkle in my brain
It paralyzes each nerve
Each fiber of muscle
And each train of thought.
Dump her matches to the lake
And let me drown peacefully with them
Let the calm water
Echo, smother and muffle out
A heavy mind
And flaming heart
Let the merciful lake
Hold up a body
My body I can’t hold
